Sam Vaiana will handle the Marauder running backs for the second season. Vaiana's (pronounced Vee-in-ah) last coaching position was head coach at Highland High School in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. He has been the color man on the Clear Channel High School Game of the Week for the last three seasons.
Before Highland, Vaiana spent a total of six years as an assistant at Antelope Valley High School, two at LA Pierce, eight at Palmdale, three at MiraCosta and two at Bishop Montgomery.
Vaiana graduated from South Torrance High School where he played football and baseball for the Spartans. As a senior, he was named All-CIF, All-South Bay and Los Angeles Times All-Star. He played for two years on scholarship in football for the University of Nevada, and played one year of baseball for the Wolfpack as well.
He then transferred to Fresno State, where he played on the Bulldogs Pacific Coast Athletic Association championship team of 1977.
Vaiana earned a Bachelor of Art’s degree in physical education and a secondary credential from CSU Fresno, and is working on his master’s in educational administration at Cal State Bakersfield.
