Mike Martinez enters his 18th season with the Marauders, moving to the the defensive line, and his 23rd as a coach.
Prior to coming to AVC in 1990, Martinez worked at preparing the offensive lines for former Foothill Conference rival East Los Angeles College in 1988 and 1989.
Before working with the Huskies, Martinez was the offensive line coach at Huntington Park High School in 1986 and 1987. In 1985, Martinez was the assistant offensive line coach for Western New Mexico University.
Martinez played two years for the ELAC Huskies, 1978 and 1982. The years in between he spent as a missionary in Guatemala for the LDS church. In 1982, he was named All-Southern California Conference on the offensive line. After East LA, Martinez played two seasons with Western New Mexico.
A 1978 graduate of Bell High School where he was on the varsity football team for three years, Martinez received his associate’s in social science (politcal science minor) at East LA in 1983, his bachelor’s in the same fields at Western New Mexico (with an additional history minor) and his master’s in education (physical education emphasis) from Azusa Pacific University in 1991.
Martinez and his wife of 20 years, Debbie have three daughters: Malissa, 18; Kayla, 15; Veronica, 14; and a son Jacob, 10.
