- Transportation- must have your own transportation to play on the AVC soccer team.
- Place to stay- must have a stable place to live while attending AVC and playing on the soccer team.
- School & Soccer First- Working during the soccer season is not realistic. You will be practicing, playing games, attending class (12 units minimum) and studying. School and soccer come before your job. This includes Summer-session, Fall Semester, Inter-session, and Spring Semester.
- Summer training- Two courses:
PE 113 Soccer Tech is 8-1005 am MTWRF from 6-20 through Thurs 7-21 (5 weeks, open to the public). We will meet in the weight room at 7:30am.
PE 140 Pre-Season Sport Condition - Soccer is 8-1030 am MTWRF from 7-25 through Thurs 8-18 (4 weeks, restricted to team). We will meet in the weight room at 7:30am.
- Mandatory Physical (Beg. July)- All AVC women soccer players are required to take a physical paid for by the college. Schedule your physical with Jerry Lewis, the head athletic trainer at Antelope Valley College. (661) 722-6446 or E-mail: jlewis@avc.edu.
- Paperwork- Form #1 and Insurance Forms (July)- Obtain both forms from the AVC soccer web page under Player Information; download, complete and submit toAssistant coach, Autumn St. George. These forms need to be turned into her by July 31.
You will need to have turned in a completed form #1, a completed insurance form and have had your physical or you will not be able to be considered for the Antelope Valley College team.
- Soccer Tryouts- August 15-19, 2005. We will have morning and evening practices for the week of Aug. 15 – 19.Physical testing is an important part of the evaluation process. The first day you will run the cooper test (12 min run) during the morning session and you will be required to run 10 X 100 yard sprints on a 1 min interval during the evening session. Players must complete each sprint in under 18 seconds and recover to the starting point within 50 seconds.
- Practice- Aug. 15 - Dec. 7. We will have morning and evening practices for the week of Aug. 15 - 19. Starting Aug. 22 we will have practices in the evening only. Evenings practices will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. We will also meet Saturday Mornings 9:00am – 11:00am. Intercollegiate women's soccer and PE 170 or PE 175 Beginning or Advanced Weight Lifting
- Games- Games are Tuesdays and Fridays. Home games will begin at 7:00pm. Players are required to pick up their uniforms at 5:30 and be dressed and ready to play by 5:50pm. Some away games we leave as early as 11:00 a.m. and return to AVC at 8:30 p.m. The away games start at either 3:00pm or 4:00pm since no one else we play uses their stadiums to play in
Incoming Freshman
- Player questionnaire- (January - April)- Find the information requested on the AVC women's soccer website under Player Information and email this information to head coach Lemuel Galvao at lgalvao@avc.edu or call coach Galvao at (661) 435-8248.
- Application for Admission (March - May)- Either stop by Admissions and Records, or go to the Antelope Valley College website at www.avc.edu to download, complete an application for admission, then submit it to admissions and records through email, regular mail, or apply in person
- Assessment (March - May)- All Freshman need to take a Math, Reading and writing assessment. Go to the Student Services building to take the assessment.This can be done when you walk in your application.
- Orientation Appointment (April - May)- Make an orientation appointment with the AVC Athletic Councilor Mrs. Audrey Moore Phone: (661) 722-6443 or E-mail: amoore@avc.edu. At this time you will put your Summer & Fall schedules together.We will be having an orientation meeting on Thursday April 21, at 6pm, in room SSV 151.
- Head Coach Sign off (May) - You need to have Audrey Moore make a copy of your Summer-session and Fall semester class schedules and deliver them in the mailbox of the head soccer coach. You need to meet all requirements on your class schedule before you can begin Summer training.
Freshman - Spring
- Schedule Appointment with Audrey Moore (Beg. Oct.)- During the Fall semester put your schedule together for the Spring semester with Audrey. You need to complete your schedule with Audrey in order to have priority registration.
- Register for Spring (November) - PE 170 Beginning/Intermediate Weight Lifting and PE 113 Advanced Soccer Techniques. Taking these classes is mandatory to be eligible to play on the team in the Fall.
- Head Coach Sign off on your classes (December)- You need to have Audrey make a copy of your Spring semester classes and deliver to the mailbox of the head coach. You must meet all requirements on your class schedule before you will be allowed to begin Spring training. You must have completed 24 units by the end of the Spring semester to be eligible to play on the team in the Fall you sophomore year.
- Appointment with Head Soccer Coach (Mar.)- Discuss contacting the head soccer coaches at the four-year universities you are interested in attending.
- Appointment with Audrey Moore (Beg. Apr.)- Set your schedule with Audrey for the Summer and Fall Semester.
- Register for Summer and Fall Classes (May)- Summer Session- PE 113 Advanced Soccer Techniques, PE 170 or 175 Beginning or Advanced Weight Lifting and PE 135 Physical Conditioning. Fall Semester- PE 230 Intercollegiate women's soccer and PE 170 or PE 175 Beginning or Advanced Weight Lifting. Taking these classes is mandatory to be eligible to play on the team in the Fall.
- Head Coach Sign off (April)- You need to have Audrey make a copy of your Summer session and Fall semester classes and deliver to the mailbox of the head coach. You need meet all requirements on your class schedule before you will be allowed to begin Summer training or play on the team in the Fall.
Sophomores
- Visit University Campuses (spring/summer) - visit university campuses you are interested in attending to see if you like the college. Make an appointment with a counselor who can show you around and the head soccer coach.
- Appointment with Audrey (August) - Confirm your schedule and transfer requirements in your chosen field to the four year university you wish to attend. Make any necessary additions or subtractions to meet requirements.
- Apply to Colleges (Oct./Nov.)- Apply to four year universities you are interested in attending. You may have already committed to a college with the soccer coach, in which case they will help guide you through the application process.
- Make Appointment with Audrey Moore (Beg. Oct.)- Set your schedule for the Spring Semester.
- Register for Spring (November)- The following is not required but highly recommended if you are going to play soccer at a four-year college. Taking these classes will only help in your success as a soccer player at a university.PE 113 Advanced Soccer Techniques and PE 170 Beg./Inter. Weight Lifting or PE 175 Adv. Weight Lifting.
- Make Appointment with Head Soccer Coach(Feb.)- Discuss contacting the head soccer coaches of four year universities you are interested in attending if you have not already committed to one.
- Meet with Counselor at University (March)- Organize your Fall Semester schedule for the university. Maybe Summer classes if you plan to take them.
- Register For University Classes (Apr./May)- you can register on-line now with most universities or by phone.
- Attend Pre-Season Training (July)- most university soccer programs do not start pre-season training until the beginning of August. This does not mean the players are not weight training during the Summer and running. You can train with us at AVC to get shape by taking PE 113 Advanced Soccer Techniques and PE 170 Wt. Training. You must come into pre-season training in great shape if you want to play at all during the season at a four-year university.
- Graduate- from a four year university with your B.S. or B.A. degree and continue on for you Master's degree. Good luck!
