What are newsgroups?
Newsgroups are a wonderfully anarchic collection of bulletin boards where
users can post and read messages about a variety of topics. There are well over 20,000 different newsgroups, and
the number grows daily. Although some newsgroups are moderated, that is the posts to the group are monitored by
an individual or individuals to ensure that the posts are on topic, the majority of newsgroups exist without any
type of government save the voices of the individuals who read and post there.
