Freshman Composition II

Course Number: ENGL102

CRN: 34694

Instructor: Gross, Jennifer

Home Page:

Email Address: jgross@avc.edu

Telephone: 661-722-6300 x6096

Meeting Requirements:

There are NO on-campus meetings required for this class.

All students registered for ENG 102 (sections OL1 and OL2) will receive an announcement by the first day of the semester (Monday, February 4) with instructions for accessing these online classes. Check your AVC student e-mail account for my announcement.

Once in our virtual classroom, students must demonstrate participation in the course (i.e., showing up to class on the first day) by reviewing the Syllabus and posting to the introductions discussion board NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, February 5.

Note that although this course is taught completely online, the AVC policy of dropping NO SHOWS will still be enforced.

**There is no wait list for this class. Once the sections fill, the ONLY way to enroll is to continue trying. If a student drops, a space will become available. DO NOT email me requesting to crash or be added as an overload.**

Special Requirements:

All students must use their AVC email address to send me any correspondence. Emails from external providers will be filtered out. If you have multiple email addresses, you may wish to set up pop-forwarding for your accounts to avoid the hassle of checking multiple email sites.

All materials MUST be submitted in MSWord 2003 or later. I will not accept work created in other word-processing programs. Not having or not having access to MSWord is NOT an excuse for late or undone work.

Finally, students must be confident computer and Internet users and be willing, participating collaborative (group) members to be successful in this course. This is a high maintenance class: online courses are HARDER, not easier. At the college level, it is expected that you will spend approximately two hours doing homework and/or studying for every hour of class each week. Since this is an online class, the equivalent of your three hours of class time must be added to the total number of hours. That means, for this 3.0 unit class alone, you should be prepared to devote at least NINE hours each week to class, reading, writing, and other homework/assignments. If this is an impossibility with respect to your personal schedule, I suggest you take this class another semester.
