Welcome to OT 101, Beginning Keyboarding. I look forward to working with you. Please read through the information below carefully.
The class will be taught online with the exception of one orientation meeting and three scheduled exams. We will meet in BE 324 ON TUESDAY, February 5, 2008 AT 5:00 PM for orientation. Check the course schedule for details.

Special Requirements:
Note--THE KEYBOARDING SOFTWARE IS NOT MACINTOSH COMPATIBLE.
YOU WILL NEED MICROSOFT WORD 2000 THROUGH 2007 FOR THE DOCUMENT PART OF CLASS. MS WORD 97 AND MS WORKS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE KEYBOARDING SOFTWARE.
IF YOU INTEND TO USE MS WORD 2007, YOU WILL NEED A DIFFERENT TEXTBOOK THAN THE ONE CARRIED BY THE BOOKSTORE. ORDERING INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON THE COURSE WEB SITE.
The keyboarding techniques are taught using computer software for drilling and instruction. You will need regular access to a computer. If you work in the labs on campus, the software will be provided for you. The on-campus labs will also have copies of the textbook for use in the lab only. The only thing you must bring with you is your own external storage device to backup your data. I strongly suggest you invest in a flash or jump drive. Floppy diskettes are notoriously unreliable.
If you plan to work at home, you must have a copy of the textbook at the start of class. You CANNOT do the work without the text, and YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME TO WAIT FOR FUNDING ISSUES TO CLEAR. Please be certain you can meet this requirement.
It is assumed you are comfortable enough with a computer to do basic troubleshooting and send/receive email communication.
Students intending to work off campus, at home or at work, will need the following:
Hardware Requirements
Pentium III CPU or higher.
Microsoft Windows 2000 or higher.
128 MB RAM.
Hard disk drive with 210 mb of free space.
Network compatible for Internet access.
CD-ROM, 8x or faster.
Graphics adapter, SVGA or higher.
SVGA color monitor.
Software Requirements
Netscape Navigator 7.0 or Internet explorer 7.0.
Reliable connection to the Internet.
Microsoft Word 2000 through 2007.
