This course is conducted entirely on-line. There are no face-to-face meetings. However, you must show activity in the course each week which includes participating in the on-line discussion. Students who do not post to the first discussion by Wednesday, February 6th at 10:00 AM will be dropped as a no-show. If you fail to post to the discussion for one week you will be dropped from the class. I am available to assist you on-line or by phone. Please correspond with me if you have any questions or concerns.

Special Requirements:

Welcome to CFE 102-On line for the Spring 2008 semester. Below you will find general information about the course. Just a few steps are required prior to entering our class, which is powered by Blackboard, a course management system. I will be emailing an online orientation the week prior to the start of the course. This will give you all the needed information to access and navigate the Blackboard system.

A requirement of this class is that EACH STUDENT must use his or her AVC e-mail address and information used on myAVC. You MUST also submit documents to me in MSWord 2003. I will not accept other word processing programs.

This course will require a minimum of 9-10 hours a week and requires basic computer skills. You must be comfortable using a computer and internet. This on-line course is HARDER than the face-to-face course. At the college level, it is expected that you will spend approximately two to three hours doing homework and/or studying for every hour of class each week. Since this is an online class you must add the 3 hours normally spent in the classroom. Therefore, you should be prepared to devote at least NINE hours each week to class, reading, writing, and other homework/assignments. I strongly recommend you look at your schedule to make sure you will be able to devote this amount of time to the course.

Course requirements include reading 1 chapter per week in the text book, online lectures, 4 observations, weekly quizzes, assignments and online discussion. In addition there will be a midterm and final. The midterm will cover chapters 1-7 and the final will cover chapters 8-16.

The book, which available in the bookstore is:

The Developing Person through Childhood and Adolescence, 7th Edition, by Kathleen Berger. You should purchase the book prior to February 4th, the first day of the class. This book is a requirement for this class.
